Masako Hattori, Ph.D.
Historian

About Me
I am a historian of the twentieth-century U.S. My research and teaching interests include the U.S. in the world; military, war, and society; nations and empires; political history; U.S.-East Asian relations; transnational history; and education and childhood.
I received my Ph.D. from Columbia University and am currently an assistant professor of history at the National University of Singapore.
Research Projects
My first monograph, The Age of Youth: American Society and the Two World Wars (Cambridge University Press, 2025), ties together the history of U.S. foreign relations, U.S. social policy, and the history of youth and education to show how military service and access to education became linked in the first half of the 20th century. Please see the "Research" page for more information.
